The Growing Place is committed to supporting the development of educators.
We offer several opportunities to visit, observe, reflect and interact with materials.
Our tour begins at our Ocean Park Campus and includes an introduction to our program, classrooms observations and Q&A. Participants enjoy lunch off-site and return to our Marine Park campus and meet with teachers to participate in the process we use to analyze curriculum.
Educator Tours are from 9 am to 3:30 pm.
Our Upcoming Educator Tours
Our Workshops are held at The Growing Place Marine Park from 9 am – 12 pm. Workshops are designed to create an exchange between colleagues and develop an understanding of the featured topics (please see each link for workshop descriptions and registration).
Our Upcoming Workshops:
Cecilia Carrillo, Teacher
Kendra Bonilla, Teacher
This workshop examines how infants process information and build theories as they observe their environment and interactions within. We also look at how educators modify their approach based on nonverbal information received as they observe infants responses.
Developing an Ecological Identity with Children
Tina Wiatrak, Teacher
Teresa Lezak, Teacher
This workshop explores how together with children we develop an attachment to nature and explore the value of a natural environment for teachers and children.
Amy Dickens, Teacher
A natural provocation that led to a long term investigation that used self portraiture as a vehicle to discover and develop the identity of self and connection with others.
Reflection, Revisiting and Refining Ourselves through Observation
Michelle Lawson, Teacher
We’ll share our journey of supporting children’s understanding and process of careful observation to represent ourselves and what we see.
Uniting Mind, Body and Soul Through the Use of Movement and Visual Arts with Young Children
Ally Voye, Atelierista, coreographer/dancer
Kady Hoffman, Atelierista, artist
Join us as we build bridges between dance, movement, and visual art forms, affording children a myriad of ways to represent their ideas, theories and their thinking.
When we share our program with others, we want to ensure that our guests are provided with a clear understanding of our approach. This takes time and availability of our staff to truly relay the details of our program and answer questions. We can arrange private tours. Our teachers and directors are also willing to consult with programs. Please complete the Request for a Private Tour Form and submit it to firstname.lastname@example.org, or fax it to 310-399-6560.
ECE students receive a discount of $25 toward any Educator Tour or Workshop. Please bring a copy of your current student ID or syllabus.
Groups of 8 or more receive 20% off the group cost for Tours or Workshops provided by The Growing Place.
