Transitional Kindergarten Classroom

What is Transitional Kindergarten?

Entering Kindergarten is a big step for children and families! It involves making new friends, adjusting to a new environment with new rules and different components (like after school programs, riding a bus and more). Our transitional kindergarten classroom provides a bridge between preschool and kindergarten and is intended for  children that miss the kindergarten age cutoff and children who may benefit from an extra year before moving onto kindergarten. TK supports our children’s love of learning and offers the gift of time to help develop social, emotional and academic skills needed to succeed in kindergarten and beyond.

We support children to be socially and emotionally ready for school. This is one of the most important areas of readiness for children and the foundation for later academic success.

We promote children to refine their motor skills. Through diverse use of materials, children enhance their motor skills. With these skills, children feel confident in managing their bodies during everyday physical activities.

We foster children’s cognitive readiness for school. These skills include the ability to reason logically, propose solutions, see another’s perspective, think critically, and ask questions.

What is the age requirement for TK?

Children must be 4 years and 6 months by August to qualify. We’re happy to work with parents in determining when kindergarten is right for their child.
